Learning new software sounds scary
It’s not.
In the past two years I’ve become knowledgeable on WordPress (built this website myself), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
Remember it’s all about the long game. Take it step by step.
Use tutorias on the web.
Adobe has great ones for their design programs and Lynda.com has been a great help too! Ask your office if they will pay for membership to Lynda!
Get experience at the office. 
Volunteer to setup a brochure or a website/webpage.
Do Research, do your homework, and you’ll make people impressed with what you’re capable of.
